百恵 Momoe

Psssst. Today, on the 17th of January, Yamaguchi Momoe 山口 百恵 celebrates her 62nd birthday. Momoe and me are the same age, born in 1959. With 21 she retired at the height of her popularity, never performed again or made a public appearance since. This stoicism enforced her legend as being the incarnation, the ideal prototype of the construct “Japanese idol”.
