Checking twitter this morning, some rare footage of a “coming-of-age ceremony” 成人式 and the so-called “Yankees” ヤンキー from Kita-Kyushu City 北九州市 and Okinawa 沖縄 made the big waves. Normally you won’t see this kind of situations in the official media channels, newspapers or magazines.
A complex, sociological, anthropological topic, which can’t be explained in a few words. I did some features about them and their elderlies.
As a half-Italian, living since 40 years in Japan, knowing how the Italian Mafia functions, let me simply explain you, that these youngsters symbolise the entrance into the Japanese Yakuza world.
It sometimes happens, that a former Yakuza even becomes a police officer.
For today, that’s one aspect, one of the many layers of the “monocultural” (ha ha!) contemporary Japanese society.
The “funny” thing is the word “Yankee”. Ask every Latin American, and you get the “proper” answer. Lol.
The second “funny” thing for today isn’t “funny” at all. The car accident by these youngsters from Okinawa, full with U.S. military bases. They love the “Yankees”. Lol.
As all these pics were posted on Twitter, they became public domain. Today, you may learn, in an open, public context, what’s the fuss to become a “cool” Japanese Yankee.
