相変わらず、中国の検閲。ジャオ氏に監督賞、中国で速報せず As usual, censorship by China. Oscar winner Chloé Zhao gets no coverage in China
We’re accustomed towards the censorship machinery in mainland China. One more case we can add with the artistic practice by director Chloé Zhao, who, last night, won two well deserved Oscars. Born in Beijing, people in China should be happy to celebrate her as the first Asian woman, who won as director at the globally-watched Academy Awards event.
Even in the social media, and internet search engines in China, the congratulation messages had been eliminated in a short period of time. Additionally, her name and also the word of her awarded film “Nomadland” had been blocked by Chinese authorities.
One more example, why every artist exhibiting in China, Hong Kong included, should be careful with her/his expressions and art practice. You may find yourself in prison or will be murdered by the local mafia. That’s the way, how, not only China’s, but other Asian countries’s people react, if you open your mouth with an “anti-patriotic” context. It’s a sign regarding the lack of adult debate culture and social tolerance.
I can tell you a whole bunch of personal experiences about censorship in China, South- and North Korea and Japan.
Social Consciousness may destroy you. Be careful and use your brain.
Let’s close with the beautifully expressed words by Zhao:
“I have always found goodness in the people I’ve met everywhere I went in the world,” said Zhao when accepting best director. “This is for anyone who has the faith and the courage to hold on to the goodness in themselves and to hold on the goodness in other no matter how difficult it is to do that.”

米アカデミー賞で最高の栄誉の作品賞を中国出身クロエ・ジャオ監督の「ノマドランド」が受賞し、ジャオ氏も監督賞を受賞したことについて、中国の主要メディアは26日昼の時点で報道していない。ジャオ氏が過去に中国に批判的な発言をし、愛国心の欠如を問われたことが影響しているとみられる。一方、香港メディアは「中国系の女性監督として初受賞」などと直後に速報ニュースを流した。

ノマドランドは中国でも4月23日から公開される予定だったが、現在も上映されていない。微博では現在でも監督名などで検索すれば表示される。監督賞受賞前もジャオ氏への批判とともに、「上映禁止にする必要はない」「オスカー（アカデミー賞）の受賞に期待」といった前向きな意見もみられた。
また、19年の香港での大規模デモに参加した若者の姿を描いた短編ドキュメンタリー映画「ドゥ・ノット・スプリット」も今回のアカデミー賞にノミネートされた。しかし、香港では約50年ぶりに授賞式が放送されなかった。
