I have no qualms about laying my cards on the table: for the year 2025, I consider MURAKAMI Takashi to be the No. 1 artist (art worker) in the world.
His eclectic, new output is enormous.
Many forget the efforts required to achieve this position.
His direct competitors are Jeff Koons, Damian Hirst, Maurizio Cattelan, and KUSAMA Yayoi.
Behind them come Gerhard Richter, Anselm Kiefer, and NARA Yoshitomo.

Koons, Hirst, Nara, Kiefer, and Kusama produce repetitive crap.
Cattelan (+ Banksy) strive to remain in the headlines. Richter can no longer come up with anything new.

David Hockney, Jenny Saville, and Ai Weiwei seem boring.
