Girls’ comics (“Shojo-Manga” 少女漫画) continue to be extremely popular among Japanese girls, who are subtly immersed in a romantic fairytale world. Japanese women often cite their favourite “character” in these girls’ comics as a role model in real life. Since their ‘prince’ will never meet them in real life, everyday life remains an escape into the world of Manga 漫画 and Anime アニメ. Very common “self-discovery through one’s partner”, regardless of the LGBTQ context, remains a lifelong source of frustration in Japan.

In this respect, Japanese society remains infantile, immature, behaviourally disturbed and lethargic.
The popularity of YAMAGISHI Ryoko 山岸凉子 partly reflects the brain in Japanese women.

In this sense, it is no wonder that tickets for the Kyogen 狂言 play were sold out by Japanese women on the first day.
Japanese media analysis of Yamagishi’s work points to the difficulties associated with plays, comedy sketches, or entire theater programs presented as Kyogen. This classic Japanese comic theater art form is characterized by spoken dialogue, exaggerated movements, satire, and a focus on everyday human situations.
“Hi Izuru Tokoro no Tenshi” 日出処の天子 (Emperor of the Land of the Rising Sun) features gay love as a central theme. It is often acclaimed as the prototype of the Manga genre:
– Shōnen-Ai 少年愛 Boy Love
– Bōizu Rabu ボーイズ ラブ Boys’ Love (BL)
– Yaoi やおい Boys’ Love

This kind of Manga genre “Yaoi – Boys’ Love” can be easily found in Germany’s bookstores, with their own section in the bookstore space about popular Japanese Mangas. This summer I asked the saleswoman if they sell. “Yes, very much indeed”, was her answer.
One of the reason, why young German women, who learned some “Manga-Japanese”, are actually traveling to Japan. (Don’t laugh!)
