Visually striking and prominently positioned, Miss Ko²/*Ko²-chan* by MURAKAMI Takashi, one of Japan’s representative artworks, is on display in the manga section of the monumentally designed museum.
Murakami enjoyed his stardom and was happy to be photographed and interviewed by everyone. There is no other Japanese artist in the world who is as famous and admired.

As the global art world knows the reception of MURAKAMI Takashi’s iconic 1997 sculpture, *Ko²-chan* /Miss Ko² bridges the gap between massive cultural acclaim and intense societal critique. Featured prominently inside the dedicated Manga Section of this newly opened ‘Lucas Museum of Narrative Art’ in Los Angeles, the towering, nearly 180 cm (six-foot) fiberglass sculpture continues to elicit strong, layered reactions from critics and visitors alike. Miss Ko² is widely celebrated as a groundbreaking masterpiece. It was Murakami’s very first life-size, three-dimensional sculpture, serving as the template for his revolutionary Superflat philosophy. By modeling the sculpture after Yuka Takeuchi (a character from the fighting video game Variable Geo) and dressing her in a stylized Anna Miller’s waitress uniform, Murakami successfully forced the elite art world to acknowledge Japanese consumer culture. Her blonde hair, blue eyes, and exaggerated proportions as a brilliant commentary on how American consumerism heavily saturated post-war Japanese media and ideals of beauty. The sculpture has historically faced pushback for its hyper-sexualized presentation. Placed alongside historic manga pages and iconic cinematic artifacts (like a statue of Kaneda from “AKIRA”), everyday audiences view Miss Ko² as a breathtaking visual anchor. 故草間にとって極めて重要な「魂の同志」であった、国民的（かつ世界的な）トップアーティスト・スター荒木経惟に対し、この勲章は直ちに授与されるべきである！！！

It is high time for Murakami’s masterpiece *Ko²-chan* to be added to the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. What are you waiting for, those in charge in Tokyo? Wake up! Now that nude performances in New York practicing KUSAMA Yayoi has received the Japanese Order of Culture from the Emperor, it is fitting to also award the Order of Culture to ARAKI Nobuyoshi, MURAKAMI Takashi, and AIDA Makoto. This award must be presented immediately to Araki, a top artist and star of national and global stature and who was a vital kindred spirit to Kusama!!!
